Art & Art History Department Annual Homecoming Open House

This will be our fourth-annual open house and the third consecutive open house to align with Homecoming & Family Weekend. This event will welcome current, past, and prospective CSU students, families, and friends into our department as well as members of the broader CSU and Fort Collins communities. All of our galleries will be open and we will have lots of student artwork on display. Our Fibers, Pottery, Printmaking, and Metalsmithing/ Jewelry student guilds and graduate student organization will be set up in our main corridor area showcasing and selling their work. We will have a Visual Art Building facilities tour available for anyone interested to give a more behind the scenes look at our studios and classroom spaces. Department faculty and staff will be on hand for the duration of the event. The event will take place right before the events around the oval, ending at 2:30 p.m. so attendees can easily get there to enjoy more Homecoming festivities.

Supporting your Student’s Journey from Backpack to Briefcase – from CSU to Employment and beyond!

This session will include a panel of current CSU parents and family members, students, and Career Center/Alumni Association staff. Panelists will share their experiences and expertise about campus resources and conversations you can have with your student to support their efforts to prepare for employment and life after CSU. Find out about the various tools available to students that can lead to internships, mentoring, on-campus jobs, & ultimately becoming employed… from Backpack to Briefcase!

Experiential Learning: Education Abroad

This session will explore experiential learning opportunities offered for students to enhance their academic learning through Education Abroad programs across the world. Parents and families will hear directly from Education Abroad staff about the various options for studying abroad including locations, program types and areas of study. Additionally, families will learn how to prepare, plan and finance Education Abroad experiences.

Housing Options for Students After the First Year

This session will share about the variety of housing options and important questions to consider for students and families when determining the best housing option for future years. University Housing will detail on-campus options, Off-Campus Life will provide considerations for students seeking to move off-campus and a local real estate partner will share information on the Fort Collins housing market.

Jazz Ensembles Concert

Join the Jazz Ensembles, conducted by Wil Swindler and Shilo Stroman, as they explore the unfolding of jazz through the 20th century into our modern world. “There is a treasure trove of classic jazz works that have been reimagined by modern jazz musicians reflecting the developing aesthetic of our music and our culture,” says Swindler. Original classics, back-to-back with adventurous, contemporary arrangements, demonstrate the fascinating differences and development of this diverse and unique genre. A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, Directed by Walt Jones

William Shakespeare’s classic, first performed around 1596, is one of the bard’s most beloved plays. For centuries, audiences have enjoyed this comic fantasy about four lovers who find themselves bewitched by fairies and suffering strange love experiences. Four interconnecting plots are set simultaneously in the wooded realm of Fairyland, under the light of the moon. Portraying the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus to Hippolyta, an Athenian weaver who is transformed into an ass-headed monster, and the antics of Oberon and Titiana, the fairy king and queen, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is an artful examination of love, jealousy, and marriage and is a delightful evening, full of wit and magical surprises. Family Shabbat Dinner

Bring your family and join us to celebrate Shabbat and Homecoming & Family Weekend over beginner-friendly, student-led services and a FREE home-cooked dinner! The CSU Homecoming parade starting at 4:30 p.m. will go down Laurel in front of the Hillel house so we will also host a viewing party for anyone who wants to join us to watch the parade pre-Shabbat.

Dinner menu will include salad, vegan and regular matzoh ball soup, garlic bread, pie with ice cream, and more!

Optional services: 6:30 p.m., dinner: 7: p.m.

Family Weekend Bagel Brunch

Come by the Hillel House this Sunday, October 14, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., for a delicious bagel brunch. Families are welcome to join us as we eat bagels and lox, eggs, pierogies, and much more. Hope to see you all there!
